It gives me great pleasure in wishing my fellow Lohana Community North London
members a very Happy Diwali and a prosperous New Year.

The last year has seen many changes occur across the country including a new Labour
Government following the election. Sadly, we have seen riots and protests increasing
racial and religious tensions. However, as we celebrate Diwali we are reminded to focus
on hope and unity during difficult times.

One of the highlights over the last year has been the election of a fellow Lohana, Shivani
Raja as the Member of Parliament for Leicester East. I am proud to have played a key
role in helping her get selected and then elected.

We often talk about the lights that guides us, let us be encouraged and remember that
even the smallest light can dispel darkness and guide us through uncertain times. There is
more that unites us than divides us.

I wish all members an enjoyable Diwali and a prosperous New Year.
